AIDA-America, metal stamping press manufacturer in Dayton, OH, USA, partnered with Archer Wire International Corp., a custom wire forming, welding, and finishing manufacturer, to help increase per-job efficiency by approximately 50% through the installation of a 300-ton AIDA direct drive servo press line at their Bedford Park, IL facility. Archer Wire, part of the Hoffman Family of Companies, primarily serves the appliance, medical, and sports recreation industries.
Before purchasing the AIDA DSF-N2-3000AB servo press, Archer Wire struggled to keep pace with growing demand for appliance components produced on their existing 200-ton mechanical press. Due largely to the mechanical press’s limited bed size, each part required multiple stamping operations, creating production bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
The AIDA unitized frame servo press solved these challenges by providing a significantly larger bed size, allowing each part to be completed in a single stamping operation. In addition, the press’s step‑feed mode—controlled through a CNC handwheel— gives operators precise control during die setup, streamlining changeovers and improving overall productivity.
Archer Wire touts their AIDA servo press line’s flexibility, particularly the ability to modify the motion profile at any point throughout the stroke. Their stamping operations benefit from this complete programmability in many ways, including improved part quality achieved by slowing the press through critical forming stages. When material variances occur, Archer Wire can quickly adapt by adjusting the motion profile to maintain consistent results.
The line is equipped with a 10,000-pound capacity servo feed and an automated robotic transfer system, with the added flexibility of taking the robot offline when running a prog die. This adaptability, anchored by the precision and control of their AIDA servo press, is key to Archer Wire’s successful stamping operations.
