In 1956 and 1957, only 40 Porsche 550A Spyders were built. MIKE KLEEVES has fabricated new bodies for two of the original cars, which had been heavily raced and crashed. He used 0.05-in.-thick 3003 H14 aluminum and shaped the body panels on Pettingell power hammers. Kleeves gas welded the panels with a torch, which is the same technique used in the original fabrication. The goal was to fabricate everything in the same way Porsche did 50 years ago, he says.
