Nidec Minster introduces EV press series

August 31, 2016 - Nidec Minster Corp., Minster, Ohio, is introducing its latest product innovation -- the EV Press Series, designed specifically for the challenging ultra thin materials used in today’s electric and hybrid vehicles.

Producing laminations for the electric vehicle market typically requires long beds for extra die space and push-pull feeds to accommodate the thin material. And according to Mark Prenger, General Manager of Nidec Minster’s Energy/Electrical Product Division, maintaining low deflection is critical.

“The EV Press Series incorporates the rugged characteristics of our PM4 Presses,” he said. “The bed and slide are massive components and designed to produce ultra low deflection characteristics.”

Nidec Minster’s initial offering includes the EV-250 and EV-350. Both versions have a bed and ram length of 3.7 meters (146 in.) to accommodate the longer tooling requirements.

The massive cast iron, low-vibration frame of the EV Press Series includes wide upright openings and the patented Minster Hydraulic Clutch and Brake.

“The EV Press is not only rugged, but it’s one of the most technologically advanced machines on the market today,” Prenger said. “The hydrostatic/hydrodynamic gibbing for precision slide guiding is pressure monitored and will automatically shut down if the system detects any issues with the guiding system.

“IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) is such a popular concept, and we are embracing it with pressure monitoring the slide and real-time monitoring of vibration levels on the bed,” Prenger added. “The EV Press is a sophisticated solution to a challenging application.”

Other key features include Quick Slide Access, Motorized Slide Adjustment with Hydraulic Locking, and Adjust-In-Motion for superior bottom dead center slide repeatability. Minster’s Production Management Control is standard with the press, allowing integration for a wide variety of ancillary systems.
