Weaver Fab and Finishing adds Amada fiber laser

February 25, 2015 - Weaver Fab and Finishing, Akron, Ohio, recently purchased an Amada FLC 3015 AJ fiber laser cutting system and an ASLUL 300 material storage and retrieval tower. The company also expanded its bending capacity with the addition of an Amada HG 1003 servo/hydraulic press brake.

The 2-kW fiber laser allows the fabricator to cut brass, copper, and titanium. The laser cutting machine is a flying-optic system; the material remains stationary as the cutting head moves on the X, Y, and Z axes. A dynamic motion system propels the cutting head during production, which helps the unit achieve the acceleration and rapid traverse speeds of linear drive motion systems.

The ASLUL 300 is a six-shelf tower that boosts productivity because it feeds material at the pace of the fiber laser cutting machine. The material storage tower requires minimal floor space because it is designed to occupy space directly above the shuttle table of the laser.

The HG 1003 press brake is a dual servo-powered press brake that features a new, highly rigid frame that helps to keep the press brake stable during use and contribute to increased accuracy. With its large open height, the press brake features increased distance between upper and lower tooling and greater stroke length than similarly sized machines. The large processing area allows for deep box bending, while also making part extraction easy.

“By partnering with Amada, we’re upgrading to leading-edge technology. Our recent equipment purchases and scheduled move to new facilities coincides with the resurgence of manufacturing in Ohio and better positions Weaver as a leader in this arena,” said Jim Lauer, Weaver’s president.
