Forums, videos and photos for anyone involved in metal fabricating
From C-level executives to welders on the shop floor, everyone has go-to websites to check on each day. Even if the last thing you want to click on is something metalworking related, we’ve got five sites for you to check out—for work or play.
The comprehensive welding forum for professionals or hobbyists. Get tips on designs, delve into specific disciplines and methods, and discuss equipment in product forums sorted by manufacturer (including Hobart, Lincoln Electric, Miller, Hypertherm and more).
Techspex is a huge database of more than 600 machine tools and 7,500 models for machine tools. You can search by supplier, distributor or builder, and dig up histories of companies making the machines. There are videos, news and articles about individual machinery and what companies make them, and tools to compare them. Want to share machine data sheets with colleagues? This is a great place to do it.
Garage Journal is a great blog mainly geared to do-it-yourselfers, but there are a ton of great links and posts for everything from setting up a home workshop to refinishing old Columbian bench vises. Check out the forums for tips, discussions, and photo galleries of homegrown projects. Our favorite: Garage Design. Enjoy.
Zac Young is the man behind the DarlingtonFarm Youtube channel, which bills itself as: “Explosions, Tractors, Guns, Power Tools, Welders and Woodworking.” Based in Indiana, Young owns Peacefield Wood & Welding and posts mainly welding videos, demonstrating tricks, tips and oddball projects. His candid commentary is honest, funny and smart. DarlingtonFarm boasts 3,000+ subscribers, for good reason.
If you just need a place to aimlessly scroll through an endless trove of welding photos—from complicated beads to perfectly composed shots of flying sparks—Flickr’s welding group is not to be missed. It gets industrial and ornate, featuring bespoke metalwork and production photos. Take a look, get lost, and enjoy.
