The work is a 26-ft.-tall enlargement of artist Dina Wind’s 1985 work of the same name; the original stood only 26 in. high. The Dina Wind Art Foundation partnered with the fabrication team at The Seward Johnson Atelier to craft this welded steel sculpture. Wind was inspired by the Old Testament’s 1 Samuel 16-23. “When the evil spirit ... was upon Saul, David took a harp and played so Saul was refreshed and well, and the evil spirit departed from him.” The sculpture uses found steel objects each carefully calibrated and balanced on its base. Totaling 15,052 lbs., individual pieces were brought into the park by crane and forklift with final welding of the components completed on site. The piece was installed at the Grounds For Sculpture park in Hamilton, New Jersey, during July 2018. Dina Wind (1938-2014) was born in Israel and spent her formative years as an artist in Philadelphia.
