October, 2025- Low maintenance weathering steel was the material of choice for Farrapona Geological Viewpoint. The looping lookout, designed and built by Puerto & Sanchez Arquitectos, juts over a mountain pass in Someido, northern Spain. Nine prefabricated parts form the bow-like loop. An inverted pyramid of four columns, minimizes the viewpoint’s contact with the ground. Hollow beams with a series of brackets welded on both sides support the pavement and railings. The deck is made of sheet metal with teardrop-shaped perforations to prevent accumulation of water and snow. According to the studio, this also creates a “musical sound” in the wind.
